Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, FREECYCLE!
Some time ago a friend introduced me to the world of Freecycle, a nationwide, state-by-state website which encourages keeping perfectly good, usable stuff out of landfills. "One man's junk is another man's treasure," right? Yes, indeedy! I give stuff away now and again, and received an antique-ish buffet/sideboard some time back (which I ashamedly admit is still gathering dustballs and spiderwebs in my garage, awaiting refinishing.)Anyhow, a few weeks ago, a fellow Freecycler & local artist in my area posted a Want ad looking for paint. I just so happened to have two unused quarts of blue which I purchased for a project which never happened before the big move cross-country last year. Long story short, after exchanging a few emails with this lady, (who is a recent transplant from Canada and quite entertaining in her writing style) she finally came to pick up the paint. Now, I don't expect to ever get anything in return from a fellow Freecycler, but what did I find in my mail slot yesterday when she picked up the paint? A little hand-signed, handcrafted print from this Freecycler artist, with a note on the back which reads:
Freecycling recognizes abundance and shows it without regard for race, religion, economic status, geographic location or shoe size. The sharing of abundance, regardless of your beliefs, creates good for everyone. In that sense it can be likened to prayer or meditation. Thank you for the colors, the abundance and the sharing!
Is that a great thank you note, or what? It made my day yesterday!
