Snow Day

It's snowing here right now. HARD. The flakes are the kind that look like little shredded puffs of a cotton ball. The kind where if you hold out your hand, you can make out the tiny, delicate and unique snowflake shapes. Although I could do just fine without winter and without any snow altogether, I must admit that watching it quietly come down from the window in my cozy home office while wrapped in my favorite fleece vest and grandma-style slippers is pretty darn relaxing. Plus, with working less than 10-minutes from the office, I don't have to get overly stressed about driving like I used to do when I worked in the northwest Chicago suburbs in the late 90's. (Wow - to say "late 90's" makes me feel old for some reason.) The dogs really seem to love being outside in the snow, especially when there is a thick enough blanklet of it (like now) to be able to scoot around and make it fly. Benny loves catching snowballs in his mouth, and Mona loves chasing Benny around and sliding across the yard as if she's on a doggie skateboard. I got off work early this afternoon since I worked late last night due to a couple meetings, and when I walked in and let the dogs out, Benny was trotting back and forth, nose to the ground and with his mouth open, picking up snow and eating it like an excavating tractor. It was really funny to see. It has snowed here several times already, but each time seems pretty exciting for the dogs. They're fun to watch.

I'll try to take and post a few more snow pictures of our house. The one posted here I just took about half an hour ago from our little piano room a.k.a. the office. You can sort of make out the snow-covered branches of our flowering dogwood tree, but it's grainy (still using the cell phone camera.) I hope this blanket of white doesn't freeze out the little green nubs I noticed poking out of the ground on the side of the yard the other day!
