Leonard Nimoy

The other night I had a dream about our old friend Leonard Nimoy. Good old Dr. Spock. I have no idea why. It's not like I was up late watching an old rerun of Star Trek or something. I do remember watching Star Trek with Dad growing up. That was fun! Years later when they started producing the "new" Star Trek episodes, I was annoyed. I was never a big Trekkie fan, but I thought the idea of creating new episodes of a classic was a waste. It just wasn't the same. Sort of like the idea of creating new episodes of Laverne & Shirley or Happy Days with a new cast. Who would watch that?? Anyway - back to Leonard. I had a dream that I was at some sort of convention or conference or something, and Leonard Nimoy was there doing a seminar. I saw him, and had an idea. My Dad's "big" birthday was right around the corner (I won't say which big birthday since you'll yell at me, Dad.) What to get him for a gift? Socks? No. A new tie? No. How about something to read? No, too boring. Hark! Seeing Leonard gave me the perfect idea: I'd ask him to write out a short, personalized note to my Dad and have him autograph it. Then, I'd get it framed. The perfect gift, eh? Who wouldn't want a personlized note from Dr. Spock? Well ok, ok... but I'm fairly certain my Dad would think that was pretty gulldern neat. I went up and talked with Leonard, and he agreed. He wrote out a note... (I don't remember what it said....) Soon afterwards, I gave Dad the framed, autographed Spocknote and that was that. Dream over. There, Dad... your REAL birthday gift. Almost as good as the real thing!!
I've always had amazingly vivid, lucid dreams. I can feel, hear, smell, taste... it can be frighteningly real sometimes. My favorite dreams are the ones where I can fly. Haven't had one of those in awhile. I've always wanted to keep a dream journal, writing down those that I remember after I just wake up. If I don't tell someone about a dream I had after I wake up, then it's lost. Sometimes, I'll dream about seeing someone I haven't seen in a long time, a stranger, an object, and then soon afterwards it seems I will often see or hear from the person I dreamt about, see in person that stranger's face, see that object in real life that I saw in the dream. Or conversely, any one of those things will trigger the memory of the dream. I'm sure that if, long ago, I actually started writing down what I dreamt about, I'd have a pretty impressive collection of stories which would deem me eligible for institutionalization! (Or at least... some pretty good readin' for when I'm old and ready for my rocking chair...)
